Laura Spinelli ATR-BC, LPC, BC-TMH
Hi, I’m Laura. I am the founder and clinical director of Creative Alternatives, LLC.
As a Licensed Psychotherapist, Art Therapist, and Board Certified Telemental Health Provider, I bring my authentic self to the therapeutic relationship in an approachable, accessible and creative way. Together we make an investment towards your healing and well-being. I view the therapeutic relationship as a partnership. You are the expert on you. I think of my role as a witness and a guide to work alongside you and help you figure shit out so you can rediscover your personal power and manifest that inner badass.
My style is straightforward, humorous, encouraging, curious, and genuine. You are invited to bring whatever is present for you and arrive just as you are — no judgment here! My approach to therapy is client-centered and supportive. Psychodynamic , humanistic/existential and positive psychology theories inform my multi-modal approach. This might mean integrating other techniques/approaches such as art therapy, mindfulness practice, guided visualization, meditation and movement in the service of addressing your unique goals. This combination of therapeutic methods helps me target your specific problems on multiple levels, addressing mind – body- spirit, so together we work on the whole you to achieve a more enduring, positive change.
I bring a diverse array of life experiences to the therapeutic relationship. Before becoming a psychotherapist I worked in a fast-paced, high-visibility, stressful business in NYC. So, I get the struggles that come with being a high performing professional (and the almost paralyzing anxiety that can come with it), along with forgetting to stop and be mindful of the simple beauty in life such as art, nature, positive relationships, and how those elements are absolutely critical to our mental wellness. After becoming a psychotherapist, I worked with a variety of adolescents and adults, and for many years, Veterans with PTSD. It is from that humbling and powerful work that I am absolutely positive that, with the right help, anyone can heal and find the beauty in life again.
I received a Master’s in Art Therapy/Counseling from Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, Connecticut. Over the course of my career, I’ve focused on the treatment of anxiety disorders, depression, trauma (PTSD) including vicarious trauma, life transition issues, chronic stress and burnout reduction, and imposter syndrome.
I am currently licensed in the states of Connecticut, Michigan, (New York — coming soon!), and I also see English-speaking international clients. I can offer flexible weekend/evening hours.

Allowing yourself to receive help and guidance in a time of challenge/overwhelm is a sign of strength. Sometimes support looks like leaning on family and friends, other times it involves professional assistance. If you feel like the needs of your wellbeing have surpassed your inner support system, it may be time to seek therapy. It’s not easy to seek help- I understand the commitment and courage it can take to sit with one’s emotions and be vulnerable. I honor that in my work so that you never feel alone in this process.
As a Psychotherapist and Art Therapist, I’m passionate about providing the best care possible so that you can safely and deeply explore experiences, emotions, and patterns that might be holding you back from living your best life. My approach is strengths-based and person-centered which means that we work together to get to the root of the problem, and personalize interventions and therapy techniques that would be the best fit for you.
I earned a Masters in Art Therapy/Counseling from Albertus Magnus College in New Haven ,Connecticut . My clinical experience includes working with a range of individuals including adults, in hospital and private practice settings. I have worked with people who struggle with debilitating anxiety, depression, trauma/PTSD. I have witnessed the powerful impact that art making, in the presence of a trained Art Therapist, can facilitate communication and healing using color, texture, and shape, which varies vastly from verbal communication. I am able to guide clients through the therapeutic process and hold a welcoming and safe space, even if through a computer screen! The convenience of communicating via videoconference can open up time in your day to implement what you’ve learned in sessions and ultimately help you gain a deeper self- awareness and enhanced well-being.
I currently provide services in the entire state New Jersey.

“I dwell in possibility…”
– Emily Dickinson
Welcome! I’m Rhonda and I’m so happy that you are taking this time for yourself to learn a little bit about me and how I can help you. As quoted above, I truly believe that all things are possible; let’s work together to help overcome any obstacles that may be keeping you stuck so you can rediscover all of the possibilities in your life .
Maybe you’ve been putting off therapy because, let’s face it, life gets busy and change can be terrifying. Yes, change can be scary, but it’s also the only guarantee in life, so why not make it a thrilling, stimulating and moving adventure! Perhaps what brings you here is that you’re feeling like you’ve forgotten to make yourself a priority in your own life; you’re feeling burnt out and just going through the motions of your day to day commitments – and you know that you deserve better. You know that you need to make changes, but haven’t a clue where to begin.
Do you ever start a sentence with, “I wish my life was…” or “I hate my job, but…”, or “I feel stuck…”? If this resonates with you, please read on; don’t lose hope!
As a former businesswoman who lived and worked in NYC, I fully understand the demands of a busy lifestyle and the challenges of work/life balance. I’ve learned first-hand that individual self-care must be a necessary part of life which is nonnegotiable when it comes to cultivating the best we can be. Life is too short to feel unfulfilled and stifled. I’ve experienced this myself and this is why I chose to become a psychotherapist. Because I know that reawakening your true self IS possible! Reinvention at any age IS possible!
I earned a Masters in Art Therapy/Counseling from the College of New Rochelle in New York. My specialties include adults experiencing chronic stress, depression, trauma, loss, life-transitions, and addiction. My style is, most importantly, empathic and collaborative; offering a safe and supportive space to explore, imagine and grow. My philosophy is that mental health and emotional well-being should be a priority, so you can be the best for everyone in your life. Holistically driven, I believe that the best way to heal is through the mind-body-spirit connection. My approach is psychodynamic, strengths based and client-centered; built on the belief that you are inherently resourceful and through the therapeutic relationship, can work towards celebrating your uniqueness and unearthing your resilience.
By taking this step to invest in yourself and create real change, you’ve already decided to manifest your inner warrior and begin to spark what’s been quieted for so long! I’m here to guide you in your journey towards transformation and authenticity so you can be the best you POSSIBLE.
